A couple years ago we realized that our dreams of having a huge garden could only be realized through the purchase of our own home. We had just moved from a one bedroom apt. in a 4th floor walk up in Queens, NYC to a lovely two bedroom in the Museum district in Richmond, VA.
Our RVA apt. at least had a yard where we shared gardening space with our downstairs neighbors:
However, my husband wanted his own gardening space that he could cultivate for years to come.
I dreamed of having a silverware drawer and a dishwasher. Also, being able to use all 4 stove burners instead of two being taken up by the cutting board, would be nice! (it's the little things)
Our Must Haves:
- Big, sunny backyard
- Open kitchen (with dishwasher)
- 3 bedrooms, 2 baths
- Privacy (no neighbors on top of us)
- Price range = $200-$275k
Our Nice to Haves:
- Close to the city
- Garage
- Basement
- Fireplace
Shouldn't be hard to find, right?? We soon learned that finding a home was not the challenge. It's the buying part that can be troublesome. Why is it so complicated to buy another structure? I do not know. But hopefully our experience can help you...
